Emotional Intelligence
As go
people’s ability to do relationships – understand and manage their emotions,
communicate, listen, manage conflict, be empathic, and forgive – so goes the
health of their friendships, marriages and families, their ability to get and
keep jobs, to break the chain of poverty and to contribute to the greater
community. As go people’s ability to do relationships, so goes their future.
The fact is that relationships matter.
Some people have emotional intelligence –
ability to let you form optimal relationships with yourself and others. EQ is
the capacity for recognizing your own feelings and those of others, for
motivating yourself, for managing emotions well in yourself and in your
relationships.
Four competencies of EQ are:
1. Self -awareness: Recognizing your emotions
and their effects; knowing your strength and limitations; and having a strong
sense of your capabilities and self-worth.
2. Self – management: managing your emotions by
keeping disruptive emotions and impulses in check; and channeling your feelings
and resources to enhance your performance and productivity.
3. Relationship Awareness: your ability to
sense other’s feelings and perspectives; read and understand the dynamics of
relationships; and anticipate, recognize, and meet key constituents’ needs.
4. Relational Management: your adeptness at
inducing desirable responses in others through communication, collaboration, influence,
and relationship-building.
This topic is important because healthy
relationships are key to our growth and they center pieces of our lives.
Relationships causes us to grow and help us face the truth about ourselves.
Healthy relationships for me and my classmates
helps us to improve in are current relationships with our family, friends,
coworkers, spouses or significant other. It will help to recognize our flaws
and work on improving them to have better relationships than we have.
The link below is a good example of people wanting to build and maintain a healthy relationship.

I found the part about emotion intelligence very interesting because it is something many people struggle with finding. You played out the parts of it really well making it easy for someone to find something they relate to and finding something else to work on. Overall the topic is very interesting and I look forward to reading more.
ReplyDeleteI think one of the most interesting things effecting relationships these days is the ever increasing use of technology. I believe there is strong reasoning to think cellphones/electronics have the ability to ruin relationships, both casual and serious. I see on many occasions people sitting around a table while individually using their own phones, which I think is not a healthy trend for relationships. I think it can also effect relationship-awareness, because people might become detached from society in minor ways that impact their own relationships. Great blog post!
